Websites that get work: 12 things every trade site needs

A good-looking website and a website that gets work are not the same thing. Run your site through these twelve checks. Each one is something we see costing trades jobs every week.

1–3: The first screen

  1. Say what, where, and how to call. "Roofer in Bristol & Bath: call 07…" in the first line, above any photo.
  2. A call button that follows you. Sticky on mobile, one tap to dial.
  3. Proof straight away: your Google star rating and accreditations near the top.

4–6: The pages

  1. A page for every service you want more of, with what it involves and a rough price guide.
  2. A page for every town you want work in, written for that town.
  3. Real photos of your jobs. Stock photos of smiling models in clean hard hats cost you trust.

7–9: Getting in touch

  1. A short form: name, number, postcode, job. Nothing more.
  2. WhatsApp, because plenty of customers would rather send a photo than ring.
  3. Something that catches missed calls, like a text back or an AI assistant that takes details out of hours.

10–12: Behind the scenes

  1. Fast on mobile data: passes Google's Core Web Vitals.
  2. Found by Google: proper titles, schema markup, a sitemap, and a linked Google Business Profile.
  3. Tracked: you can see how many calls and forms the site brought in each month. Our analytics setup does exactly this.

How did your site score?

10–12: you're ahead of most trades in your town, so focus on reviews and ranking. 6–9: fix the gaps, starting from the top of the list. Under 6: your website is probably costing you work, and a rebuild will likely pay for itself.

Every WebWise build ticks all twelve as standard. See examples, prices, or read the complete guide to websites for tradesmen.

Common questions

The short versions of what trades ask us most about this.

Still unsure? Book a free 15-minute call and ask us directly.

01Why isn't my website getting me any work?

Usually one of three things: Google isn't showing it (no service or town pages, weak Google Business Profile), people don't trust it (no reviews or real photos), or it's hard to contact you on a phone.

02What should a tradesman put on their website?

What you do and where, a page for each service and town, real job photos, reviews and accreditations, prices or a price guide, and a call button, WhatsApp and short form on every page.
